The title for my opening sequence is 'Pushing buttons'. Pushing buttons denotes the concept of how women feel when they are harassed, pressured and discriminated against, to the point they feel trapped and imprisoned within their own mind. The emotion of fear and vulnerability further prevents the woman to seek help and express their inner feelings because they fear losing their job and the opportunity to become independent. They have been cornered into depression which could have severe consequences physically and mentally.
The narrative behind pushing buttons highlights significant
themes concerning British social realism such as harassment, isolation and
vulnerability which creates enigma as to what caused the protagonist to be
associated with such themes. The title mirrors her persona and her actions which
is a typical way of portraying BSR. The strong link between the protagonist and
the title will demonstrate how her buttons are being pushed to the limit in the
workplace thus revealing key themes in the narrative. This fits perfectly with
the BSR theme as the structure of BSR exploits the title to narrate the
characters situations and the later implications. This was demonstrated within
the title ‘fish tank’ which explored the situation of a character being
portrayed as a fish, trapped in a fish tank but in reality , is trapped in society
and wanting to escape to achieve her aspiration of becoming a dancer. Thus the
title name demonstrates to the audience, clear themes of aspirations and
escape.
Here is an example of where I have shown my protagonist fitting the dark theme. We denote a young woman in a dark room , her face lacking any happiness as she is trapped and yearns to be somewhere else.
The opening sequence also highlights her mundane journey to her office job.
